Theme:  Top Female Songs of 2013
Host:  Andrea Young

“I got beauty.  I got class.  I got style.  And I got ass”
–Beyonce

This show has some of my favorite top female songs of 2013. Top song lists always reflect the taste of a curator like myself.   This list doesn’t include the songs you know are on everybody’s list this year:  Miley Cyrus, Pink, Lana Del Rey, Rihanna, Keisha, Christina, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry. They’re all well known and all deserving of being on the top lists.  But this for the most part is a list of female artists and bands with female singers that you might not have heard of yet.

NOTES AND CREDITS
QUADRON/Neverland:
Quadron is a Danish duo consisting of singer Coco O and musician/producer Robin Hannibal. The group calls itself and the music they provide, electronic soul.

HAIM/Falling

BEYONCE/Superpower:
Her new album dropped with lots of fanfare this past week.  This song was co-written and co-produced by my man of the hour, producer and songwriter Pharrell Williams. Have you been to his website 24hoursofhappy.com?  Over 300 dancers spontaneously in one take each, individually dancing to ‘Happy’.  On my Spotify Constant Repeat playlist.   Check out the full credits for Beyonce’s album on revolt.tv.

=GRACE INDEPENDENT=/Come A Little Closer To Me (not yet released):
A pop alternative trio of writers, producers and experimentalists who say their first language is music.  They’re from Brooklyn and just releasing their first EP on the Aspenbeat label.

DIANE BIRCH/Truer Than Blue
This soulful ballad immediately made it onto my Spotify Constant Repeat playlist.

STEVE MARTIN & EDIE BRICKELL/When You Get To Asheville

VALERIE JUNE/Rain Dance

BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG AND NORAH JONES/Long Time Gone
and BONNIE “PRINCE” BILLY AND DAWN MCCARTHY/Devoted To You
Isn’t it funny sometimes how all of a sudden a good idea is manifest by more than one group of people?  Both Armstrong/Jones and Billy/McCarthy have released albums of Everly Brothers song covers this year.

EMILY BEAR/Italia
She’s a twelve year old wonder who composed and plays this song on her first studio album this year, produced by none other than Quincy Jones.

MEGAN HILTY/No Cure

LAURA MARLING/Where Can I Go?

ARIANA GRANDE/The Way

YEAH YEAH YEAHS/Wedding Song
